June is Pride month and we are here to celebrate LGBTQ+ communities around the world.
Pride is held in June as that’s the month the Stonewall riots took place in 1969.
Pride is a celebration of love and friendship to show how far LGBTQ+ rights have come and where there is still work to be done.
However, it was also borne out of protest and shines a light on the continued fight for equality led by LGBTQ+ communities and their allies across the planet.

I aspire for Kent to keep pushing the boundaries in terms of EDI practice and ensuring that this is fully embedded as part of our “business as usual."
We are committed to fostering a positive working environment where all employees are treated fairly, with dignity, courtesy, respect and consideration.
We support our trans, nonbinary and intersex colleagues and work to remove discriminatory practices.
Members of our LGBTQ+ Staff and Student Networks tell us why Pride is important to them.
We stand firmly with our trans colleagues, students and service-users
We have a number of LGBTQ+ support networks for our students and staff.
We have a free, peer-support group for all trans, intersex and non-binary gender people at Kent.
The LGBTQ+ Network acts as a voice for LGBTQ+ Students in both the University and the Union.
Our network encourages people from all sexual orientations and gender identities to get involved.
Throughout Pride Month we will be sharing reflections from staff on why they wear our rainbow lanyards and what they mean to them.
